Book Review-Buster Gets Back on Track

Buster Gets Back On Track is a children’s story written by Dale Earnhardt, Jr.

Summary: Buster really wants to win. But when everything keeps going wrong, his emotions get out of control. Will Buster ever win, or should he just give up?

My Thoughts: I really liked this book. It does a great job discussing emotions and what to do with them-especially when they get the better of you.

This book would be perfect for any children that are racing fans, love cars, or just struggle with big emotions.

The pictures are bright and colorful, and there are even more examples at the back with healthy ways to deal with life’s frustrations.

As a racing fan myself, I also enjoyed the different car characters’ personalities, and their fun names too.

I would definitely recommend this book, and would like to thank Thomas Nelson for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you!

*Please note: this book will be released on September 19, 2023.

Ally’s Angels September Challenge

It’s time for another challenge at Ally’s Angels!

Our theme for September is as always-Anything Goes.

For this month, I decided to use a journaling card to make a larger-sized card to display in my craft room.

Here is my card:

Supplies: Patterned Paper: Paige Evans (plaid), Vicki Boutin (journaling card); Diamond Stickles: Tim Holtz; Clear Glitter Enamel Dots: Trinity Stamps; Other: Card Stock

It’s a simple project, but it reminds me to take care of myself, and do things I love-like making cards!

Well, that’s it from me today.

I hope you enjoyed this card and are inspired to join us for this month’s challenge. You have until October 9th, so there’s plenty of time!

The Paper Funday Challenge #57

Hello everyone!

I am excited to be sharing my September project for The Paper Funday Challenges Design Team!

The September challenge is as always Anything Goes, and our twist theme for this month is: School Yard Fun.

We are sponsored this month by Fred, She Said and Sheepski Designs.

This month I received another adorable gnome image from Sheepski Designs (you can see the one I used in July here.)

I am not typically a gnome person, but I think these are just so darn cute.

Here is the image I used:

SUCH a cute image!

Here is my card:

Supplies: Digital Image: SheepSki Designs; Patterned Paper: Crate Paper Cool Kid (blue); Stamp: Elle’s Studio; Dies: Lawn Fawn; Markers: Spectrum Noir: BG7, BG9, TN7, TN8, DR6, DR7, DG2, DG4, BG1, EB1, Blender; Unknown: Green Patterned Paper

It looks a bit different than the image, doesn’t it?

I took a little creative license with this one and cut it apart so that my gnome is sitting on the tree and holding leaves instead of the swing.

He looks so cute sitting up in the tree!

I also created a red mat by coloring white paper with the same marker (DR6) as the leaves to make it all match, and that’s my card for this month.

I hope you are inspired to create, and we would love to have you join us at this month’s challenge!

August Books

Today I am sharing the books I read in August.

Here are my reading goals for 2023:
1. Read 250 books. This includes the books I read to the kids, audiobooks, and anything I read for myself. 145 DONE
2. Read twelve (new to me) classics/award-winners. 4 DONE
3. Read twelve self-help/education books. 10 DONE
4. Re-read thirty books. There are so many good books I have been meaning to re-read, so this is my goal to help with that! 13 DONE

A few formatting notes:
1. I have inserted pictures as well as Amazon links to the books I enjoyed most for the month so that it is easier to read more about each book if you are interested. Hopefully, your local library system will carry most of these.
2. If I completed a more detailed review of any of these books, I included a review link after my comments.
3. If a book is not available yet, you will see the publication date in parenthesis after my comments.
4. I have rated each book using a bold numbered star after each comment.

The rating system is as follows:
*5-This book was so good, I either bought it, or think it is worth buying. I am pretty picky about the books I buy, so this is as good as it gets!
*4-This book was worth reading, but not necessarily worth buying-look for these books at your local library
*3-This book was just OK. I wouldn’t need to read it again.
*2-Don’t bother
*1-There probably won’t be any of these, because if it was THIS bad, I wouldn’t finish it. 🙂

This month, I really wanted to get back into the habit of reading to The Little Guy, so we read several books. It was also the start of the school year for us, so lots of back-to-school books and read alouds for that too.

For the year, I have read thirty-eight books to the kids and seventy-six books just for me. I’ve also read thirty-one picture books to myself for review.

That’s it for today. I will share my September books the first Tuesday in October!

Book Review-When Fall Comes

When Fall Comes: Connecting with Nature as the Days Grow Shorter is a children’s picture book written by Aimee M. Bissonette, and illustrated by Erin Hourigan.

Summary: This book shows the ways people and animals get ready for fall.

My Thoughts: I liked this book. The warm and beautiful illustrations really set the scene for fall, and I like how the book encourages exploration of all the things fall has to offer.

It’s an inviting story, and would be especially good to read to small children as the seasons change to prepare them for what’s to come, and spark their imaginations.

I don’t know that I would buy it as it is pretty specific to a time of year, but overall I enjoyed it and could see myself checking it out from the library each fall.

I would like to thank Sasquatch Books for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you!

Please note: this book will be released on September 5, 2023.

Aloha Friday September Challenge

I am back with a new design team project for the Aloha Friday Challenge!

For the month of September, our challenge was to create a card with the theme: School/Books.

My favorite Lawn Fawn stamp set immediately came to mind, and I made this bookish card for my son.

Here is my card:

Supplies: Paper: Lawn Fawn, Simple Stories (realistic woodgrain); Stamps and Dies: Lawn Fawn; Markers: Spectrum Noir TB5, CR10, IG7, TN6, DR6, EB3, GB8, TN8, TN9, TB7, IG8, IG1, IG2, IG4, Blender

I really like how this one turned out (I do love those bears!), and I hope it encourages you to join us at the Aloha Friday Challenge blog this month!

Mix It Up Challenge Blog Time!

It’s time for a new Mix It Up Blog challenge! Yay!

Our challenge this month is: Make Your Own Background

For my background, I used several distress inks, as well as a stencil to create an ocean background. I also used some dies for the ocean floor.

I used an absolutely adorable stamp set from Trinity Stamps for my card. I also experimented with large shaker pockets and some shimmery discs (also from Trinity Stamps.)

I absolutely love the end result!

Supplies: Mermaid Stamp, Sentiment Stamp, Mermaid Die, Discs, Shaker Pocket: Trinity Stamps; Ocean Dies, Ray Stencil: MFT, Rectangle Die: Lawn Fawn; Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks: Prize Ribbon, Broken China, Speckled Egg; Other Inks: Hero Arts Unicorn White, Memento Tuxedo Black; Markers: Spectrum Noir CG1, CG2, BG1, BG2, BG4, PL2, LV2, PP1, Blender, Copic: E11

I hope this card inspires you to join us for this month’s challenge at the Mix It Up Challenge Blog.

We would love to have you!

Have a great day and I can’t wait to see what you create!
