For today’s card, I played with the truck die I won from Keep It Simple Paper Crafts and made a Father’s day card for my dad.
This die is SO much fun!
Here is the final result:
Supplies: Card Stock: American Crafts (grey), Park Lane (white); Dies: Keep It Simple Paper Crafts; Stamps: Lawn Fawn; Ink: Memento (black), Tim Holtz (Distress Gathered Twigs); Pen: Signo Broad White Gel Pen; Other: Red Card Stock
I popped up the trunk on foam tape, and I also inked the edges of the grey and red card stock to give it more of a vintage look and added some gel pen accents too.
To make it a shaped card, I created a second panel and creased it with a bone folder and attached it with red tape.
Here is a side view:
I am really happy with how it turned out and think my dad will really like it!
I am entering this card into the following challenges:
Arletis, Abuelo, and the Message in a Bottle is a children’s story written by Lea Aschkenas and illustrated by Cornelius Van Wright and Ying-Hwa Hu.
Summary: Arletis wonders what it’s like beyond the shores of her island. When she finds a message in a bottle, she immediately responds with a letter of her own. That begins a correspondence that changes her life forever.
My Thoughts: This was a very interesting story-made more so by the fact that it is based off something that actually happened!
I love how one message and a little curiosity led to such a beautiful friendship that has spanned the decades.
This is a wonderful story, the illustrations are beautiful, and I really enjoyed it.
I would like to thank Star Bright Books for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you!
I am still posting layouts from the April scrapbook BINGO challenge over at Paper Issues.
This is my sixth layout, and this time my challenge was to use three photos.
Here is my layout:
Supplies: Patterned Paper: My Little Shoebox; Letters: American Crafts (aqua), Dear Lizzy (gold); Gold Puffy Stars: Elle’s Studio; Enamel Dots: Echo Park; Chipboard: Studio Calico; Brown Word Stickers: Cosmo Cricket; Tiny Star Stickers: Funny Sticker World; Other: Brown Card Stock
I love shaped pages, so it’s been fun to dig some out of my stash!
And now I have my sixth layout for BINGO!
Stay tuned-I will be posting more BINGO layouts over the next few weeks.
Today I am sharing a quick thank you card I made and sent out the door.
I used some thick floral card stock for the base, and then added gold letters over vellum (I added my adhesive behind the letters only when sticking down the vellum.)
It was a nice, quick card-perfect for what I needed!
Supplies: Floral Card Stock: Park Lane (Jo-Anns), Gold Paper: American Crafts; Dies: My Favorite Things; Other: Vellum
That’s it for me today, but stay tuned-I will have another layout up tomorrow!
Montana Cold Case Conspiracy is a suspense novel written by Sharon Dunn. This book is part of a series of books centered around characters from the same town, but it is not necessary to have read the other books in order to enjoy this one.
Summary: Lila Christie has always wanted to know what really happened the night of the bank robbery that took her father from her.
Everyone else has decided her father was to blame, and it even cause the end of her relationship with Stewart Duncan.
Now new evidence has come to light, and she’s back in town determined more than ever to discover the truth.
Will now-sheriff Stewart Duncan help her find out what really happened? Or is she on her own against an unknown killer who will do anything to stop her?
My Thoughts: I liked this book. It is definitely one where you just need to enjoy all the drama, action, and romance and not think too hard about the overall plot.
There are so many times where she almost gets killed, that it’s a bit unbelievable that she’s still alive.
If you can get past that however, it’s a fun ride of a read, and I liked the sweet romance too.
I would like to thank Harlequin for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you!
Please note: This book will be released on May 23, 2023.
The Moon Tonight is a children’s book and was written by Jung Chang-hoon and illustrated by Jang Ho.
Summary: This book explains the moon phases and lunar cycles as viewed from earth.
My Thoughts: I didn’t care for this book. It is educational, but the words were not engaging, and the book really didn’t hold my interest.
The book description states this is a story of a father and daughter discovering the moon together, but I failed to see that in the book-not even in the pictures. There wasn’t a real story line, and the book felt disjointed throughout. It was very much here is what the moon looks like now. Here is what it looks like now.
The different phases could have been tied together more smoothly, and I found myself wanting to speed through it just to finish.
I actually found it most interesting when the author began to talk about how people tracked the moon in the past, and I think that would have been a better way to bring more story to this book.
If it would have started with early humans and how they tracked the moon, and then tied it forward in history to today, it would have made for a more engaging story.
I did like the questions and answers section as it had good solid questions children might ask along with interesting answers. That section would have made for a great book as well had it been drawn out.
And, I did enjoy the pictures. They were very unique and I liked them.
Overall, I think I liked the idea of this book better than the execution, and I don’t think it would engage most children-even if they really enjoyed learning about the moon.
I would like to thank Blue Dot Kids Press for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my review.
I am still posting layouts from the April scrapbook BINGO challenge over at Paper Issues.
This is my fifth layout, and this time my challenge was to use this gorgeous layout as inspiration.
Here is my layout:
Supplies: Patterned Paper and Rubons: Fancy Pants; Letters: October Afternoon; Puffy hearts, Dots, and Stars (Ellie’s Studio); Punch: EK Success; Gray Card Stock: American Crafts
Anyway, that’s it-my fifth layout for BINGO!
Stay tuned-I will be posting more BINGO layouts over the next several weeks.
I recently got into planner stickers-they do wonders for helping me find things on my busy schedule!
Anyway, I came up with an idea to help me meet some of the goals I would like to accomplish-drink more water, eat more salads, exercise (this will have to wait until my broken foot heals!), etc.
I decided to buy some special stickers just for this new goal journal that I will use to keep track of the goals I meet.
And, now that they are here, I of course had to make something to keep my stickers in, and I needed a cover for my journal.
Here is what I came up with:
Supplies: Paper: Echo Park; Card Stock: American Crafts; Sticker Letters: Simple Stories; Dies: Elle’s Studio (hearts and rectangle) Lawn Fawn (journal card, letters); Other: Vellum
For the journal, I used a cheapo one with blank pages I got on clearance for twenty-five cents a long time ago. I stapled and adhered the patterned paper to the outside to cover up the black cover, and presto-new journal!
The sticker book is simply a piece of patterned paper folded, and I also created a fold for the inside to create pockets to hold my stickers.
I used a little tape adhesive on the edges and in the middle, and that was it. Super easy.
I created a folder quite a bit bigger than I need in case I get other larger stickers in the future, and because I wanted some room to decorate the outside.
Isn’t this paper GORGEOUS? I just bought four pieces, and when it came in the mail I immediately realized it was not enough!
In fact, I only have scraps left already. I am definitely going to have to track down some more!
Anyway, that’s my project for today, and I am submitting it to the As You See It Challenge #298 to use something new (the paper is brand new to my stash!)
